The Google Photos video editor is getting AI, because of course it is

According to the app’s support page, Google has added some new features and updates to the video editor in Google Photos for Android and iOS users.

The biggest update brings new “AI-powered video presets” to both versions of the app. These new presets automatically trim video length, adjust lighting, change speed and apply new effects with just a few clicks. Some of the AI-powered effects feature motion tracking, automatic zoom and slow-motion. The new “Presets” tab is located below the video timeline.

This is not the first AI feature added to the Google Photos app. Last May, Google added its “Ask Photos” feature, a Gemini-powered AI chatbot that allows for more detailed and conversational photo searches for US users.

Google also changed and added some Android-specific features. The new Trim tool has improved controls for more precise cuts. There’s also a new “Auto Enhance” feature that can automatically improve colors and stabilize video, and a new “Speed” tool that can speed up or slow down action.

The new features are rolling out starting today.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra is still the biggest, best, and most expensive. It has a 6.9-inch display and more rounded edges for a “comfortable grip.” Samsung says it’s the “thinnest, lightest, and most durable Galaxy Ultra device ever,” with a titanium body with Corning’s Gorilla Armor 2 for “advanced drop protection” and scratch resistance.

Unlike the two smaller models, one of the Ultra’s camera sensors got a spec upgrade: its ultrawide lens is now 50MP, up from a mere 12MP in last year’s model.
