TikTok Music is on its way out

TikTok Music is shutting down after an attempt to convert views to music streaming on its base app. The music arm announced the news that accounts will be shut down by November 28, with all user data and login information deleted.

Google subscribers whose subscriptions end after November 28 should automatically receive a refund or can request a refund through Google Play before TikTok Music shuts down. Apple users, on the other hand, will have to request a refund through Apple Support before the 28th to get a refund.

However, anyone who uses TikTok Music should wait a minute, as the premium service will not be available after the refund is processed. Talking about the deadline, anyone who wants to transfer their playlists from TikTok Music to another music streamer will have to do so by October 28.

TikTok Music was first launched in Indonesia and Brazil in July 2023. It replaced another music platform called Resso from ByteDance (TikTok’s parent company). Around the same time, it became available in closed beta tests in Australia, Mexico, and Singapore, and fully launched in those places in October. Despite ByteDance filing a “TikTok Music” trademark application in May 2022, the platform never came to the US.

While the tradition of including the S Pen in the phone continues (it’s now essentially the same as the long-discontinued Galaxy Note), Air Commands — which bridged the gap between the two — is now gone. Samsung told Engadget in a briefing that less than one percent of S Pen-toting customers used the feature. And of those who did, most used it as a camera shutter, which can easily be replicated in other ways. Samsung says removing it reduced some weight and increased the S Pen’s durability.

Engadget’s Sam Rutherford got an early taste of the Galaxy S25 Ultra and said it “feels like a good phone” and called Samsung’s AI suite “much more consistent and easier to use,” but felt the company “could have done more for its most expensive non-folding phone.”
